Modern Niagara among Canada’s Top Employers
November 9, 2018, Ottawa — Modern Niagara has been named one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, announced by Mediacorp Canada Inc. Founded nearly 60 years ago in Ottawa, Modern is Canada’s largest mechanical, electrical, building controls and services company. This is the first year Modern has applied to the competition and is one of only 15 new entrants on the list.
“This award is especially meaningful because it’s about our employees,” said Modern Niagara CEO Brad McAninch. “The expertise, dedication and enthusiasm they bring to work every day is what makes Modern Niagara the contractor of choice for hundreds of clients. I’m proud we can offer people a fulfilling career and enjoyable workplace.”
Modern was recognized in part for its comprehensive career development offerings, from skills training and apprenticeships, to managerial development and leadership symposiums. Outside the office, employees enjoy a busy social calendar with events, celebrations and fundraisers. For growing families, Modern supports new mothers, fathers and adoptive parents with generous salary top-up payments. A detailed rationale is available online.
“We live by our One Modern philosophy: working as a single, integrated, supportive team,” said McAninch. “It’s been incredibly affirming to see our team embrace the philosophy. Even with a diverse and large workforce, we have each other’s backs. No matter our job title, every one of us recognizes we have a role to play in keeping our workplace safe, fun and interesting for all.”
Now entering its 20th year, the 2019 competition saw an increased number of applicants from all regions of the country. Editors grade employers on eight criteria, which have remained consistent since the project began: (1) physical workplace; (2) work atmosphere and social; (3) health, financial and family benefits; (4) vacation and time-off; (5) employee communications; (6) performance management; (7) training and skills development; and (8) community involvement.
