Modern Niagara Accelerates Climate Action with New EV Charging Stations
Ottawa, Ontario (November 11, 2024) – As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, Modern Niagara installed electric vehicle (EV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) charging stations across our locations in Canada. This initiative, made possible through partial funding from Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP) and Electric Vehicle and Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Deployment Initiative, reflects a significant step towards the company’s goal of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and promoting climate action.
With a total installation of 26 Level 2 chargers, providing 52 charging ports, as well as 6 Level 3 fast chargers, the charging stations provide sustainable energy options for Modern Niagara employees. The Level 2 EV stations offer a charging speed of up to 7.2 kW, while the Level 3 offer a speed 31 KW, both ensuring an efficient charging experience.
“The substantial investment from Modern Niagara, supported by the federal government, highlights our progressive and proactive commitment to making a positive impact on both our environment and our community,” said Mario Pitoscia, EVP of Construction National Standards and Processes.
Over the course of 2024, Modern Niagara’s climate efforts have yielded impactful results, with carbon savings reaching a milestone of 100,000 kg by October 2024.

As the adoption of EVs rises, Modern Niagara has seen a steady increase in unique drivers utilizing its charging stations. The number of unique drivers and usage of charging ports has grown continuously from January to October 2024, underscoring the value of accessible EV infrastructure. This growth supports a sustainable shift in energy consumption and transportation.

“Our commitment extends to helping our customers develop and implement their carbon reduction strategies. By providing clean fuel alternatives such as our EV Stations and our Renewable Natural Gas initiative we are not only reducing our carbon footprint but also setting an example for others to follow. We believe that by working together, we can create a cleaner, more sustainable world for future generations,” added Pitoscia.
This milestone marks an important chapter in Modern Niagara’s broader sustainability journey as the company actively adopts electrification to reduce carbon emissions.
