Rooted in Culture, Inspired by Community

Modern Niagara recently unveiled a series of custom commissioned artworks honoring Indigenous heritage and underscoring our commitment to inclusion, community and local partnership at our new Edmonton office space.

In collaboration with Print&Platen—an Indigenous coowned apparel and design studio based in Edmonton, Modern Niagara transformed our lobby and boardrooms into spaces of reflection and shared identity.

The Edmonton Indigenous Land Acknowledgement displayed in the main lobby area serves as a powerful reminder of the land we work on and the communities we are connected to.

Modern Niagara Edmonton is located within Treat 6 Territory and within the Metis homelands and Metis Nation of Alberta Region 4.  We acknowledge this land as the traditional territories of many First Nations, such as the Nehiyaw (Cree), Denesuline (Dene), Nakota Sioux (Stoney), and Anishinaabe (Saulteaux) and Niitsitapi (Blackfoot).

Modern Niagara recognizes its strength and vibrancy to these lands and the diverse Indigenous Peoples whose ancestors footsteps have marked this territory, as well as settlers from around the world who continue to be welcomed here and call Edmonton home.

To cultivate a sense of shared ownership, Modern Niagara invited team members in Edmonton to propose names for our new boardrooms. Two submissions were selected and brought to life through custom art by Print & Platen:

The Blackfoot Room

Named in recognition of one of Edmonton’s foundational First Nations communities, this boardroom features Modern Niagarabranded artwork featuring a dreamcatcher and canvas that reflect both tradition and modernity – combining traditional symbolism with contemporary design to represent heritage and innovation.

The Grey Wolf Room

Inspired by the collaborative spirit of our Estimating team, known internally for “leading the pack,” the Grey Wolf Room showcases an abstract mural of a wolf in motion, symbolizing strength, unity and the collective pursuit of new opportunities.

Choosing to work with an Indigenous-owned business was a deliberate and meaningful decision. It allowed us to celebrate Indigenous culture through art while supporting local entrepreneurship. These custom wall art pieces are a reflection of our values and our commitment to inclusion and community.
