Our commitment to support our communities goes far beyond the work we do to build and maintain vital infrastructure. As a result, we are driven by a strong urge to make a positive and meaningful impact on the communities where we live, learn, work, and heal.
Throughout 2022, Modern Niagara continued its partnership with Charity Miles – a unique fitness app that helps us make charitable donations from all the miles we walk, run, and bike. We saw great impact in 2021 with significant engagement from employees across all 6 regions in which we operate.
In the spirit of giving back to our communities, our teams were eager to continue moving in support of a good cause. We saw employees run, bike, walk, and much more for our CSR partner organizations including Rideau Valley Conservation Area, Canadian Blood Services, Threads for Life/Steps for Life Canada, Enactus Canada, & BGC East Scarborough.
A total of 133 Modern Niagara employees moved over 83,936 kilometers and collectively raised over $37,000. This extraordinary number of kilometers contributed to 9 organizations and helped to address multiple diverse areas of need, such as bringing action and education to food inequalities in our northern provinces which largely affects Indigenous communities. In addition, the collective efforts of our active participants helped to support those in need of blood, persons who have been impacted by workplace tragedies or injuries and so much more.
“Charity Miles has become an integral part of our mental health and wellbeing program as we know moving our bodies and being outside reduces stress levels. Plus, there’s the added benefit of being able to convert our movement into meaningful support for our communities”, says Hannah Ireland, CSR Specialist here at Modern Niagara.
