Modern Niagara Apprentice Christian Garcia Honoured with IBEW Local 353 Top Student Award

Modern Niagara is pleased to announce that Christian Garcia, an apprentice in our Toronto Electrical division, has been honoured with the IBEW Local 353 Top Student Award, presented by Klein Tools. The IBEW Local 353 Top Student Award is awarded annually to outstanding apprentices who demonstrate exceptional technical ability, leadership, and commitment to the trade.

“IBEW Local 353 hosts Trade School, at our 1377 Lawrence Ave. E location, for the NCS-631A trade. We have partnered with Klein Tools to honour the Top Student in each level of Trade School – Basic and Advanced. This is achieved by receiving the top marks and demonstrating excellence,” stated Daryl Mckinnon, NCS Coordinator/Examining Board Chair at IBEW Local 353.

Christian’s remarkable achievement is particularly noteworthy as he is the third consecutive apprentice to earn the Top Student Award in both levels of the program, setting him apart as a leader among his peers.

“Christian is the third back-to-back winner (Basic and Advanced). Congratulations Christian for achieving excellence in both levels of NCS Trade School,” Mckinnon continued.

Modern Niagara remains committed to supporting the next generation of skilled trades professionals through training, mentoring, and partnerships with local unions.

“I’m proud to call myself an IBEW Local 353 member and a journeyman technician with Modern Niagara. These past two years have been incredibly rewarding with opportunities to showcase my skills, take on new challenges and grow as a technician. I’m grateful for my experience in trade school and the support I’ve received throughout my apprenticeship,” explained Christian Garcia, 2024 recipient of the IBEW Local 353 Top Student Award.

This esteemed recognition reinforces the importance of collaboration. By supporting initiatives like the NCS-631A Trade School, these partnerships foster opportunities for apprentices to advance their careers and contribute meaningfully to the skilled trades.

“We are proud to congratulate Christian on the successful completion of his apprenticeship. His commitment to excellence embodies the core values we hold at Modern Niagara and we’re excited to see his continued growth in the trade,” says Michael Favretto, Senior NCS Technician at Modern Niagara.
