At Modern Niagara, we believe that building communities goes beyond the work we do on job sites. It’s about rolling up our sleeves, lending a hand, and giving back to the places where we live and work. This September, our teams across the country came together for our 7th annual Community Day – one workday where employees volunteer their time to support local charities in their communities.
With 400 volunteers supporting 33 charitable organizations across eight regions, including Southwestern Ontario, Kingston, Ottawa, Toronto, Halifax, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver, our teams made a positive impact in communities across the country.
From sorting donations and supporting food banks to cleaning community spaces, our teams showed up with purpose and passion.
“Lending our hands and showing our support to our communities really shows that we care.” — Abd Abukwaik, Estimating Manager
For many of our team members, Community Day is a highlight of the year. It’s a chance to connect with colleagues outside the office or job site and to see firsthand the difference we can make when we come together.
“It makes our work more fulfilling,” shared Gael Beltran, Project Coordinator. “Giving back to the community makes our job a lot more meaningful. It’s not just your regular 9 to 5. It’s a change of scenery, being one with nature, being one with community.”
Our collective commitment to giving back is what makes Community Day so powerful. Across all regions, our teams stepped up with enthusiasm, contributing time, effort, and care to organizations that serve those in need.
“It’s an opportunity to give back to the communities that we operate in,” said Pat Chiarello, Director of Finance and Shared Services. “Obviously, we’re a business, but as part of our core values, we want to give back. This is a great opportunity for everybody to collectively do that on one particular day. We do it throughout the year, but this is one special day when we all come together.”
As we reflect on another successful Community Day, we’re reminded that small actions, when multiplied across hundreds of hands, can create a lasting impact. We’re proud of every volunteer who took part this year and grateful for the incredible organizations who welcomed us into their spaces to help advance their missions. Together, we’re not just building infrastructure. We’re helping to build stronger, more connected communities across Canada.
