Waterloo Region Consolidated Courthouse
Location: Ontario – Greater Toronto
Market Sector: Correctional, Law, Courthouse
Delivery Method: P3
The Waterloo Region Consolidated Courthouse was an Infrastructure Ontario P3 project. This state-of-the-art facility includes 30 courtrooms and associated spaces, contains 76 holding cells, and the offices of 32 Judges and 11 Justices of the Peace.
The building has three mechanical rooms: one below grade, one in the third-floor penthouse, and a third in the seventh-floor penthouse. There are three chillers and three cooling towers supplying 605 tons of cooling, three 3700 MBH hot water boilers, one 1674 MBH steam boiler, and eleven air handling units across these mechanical rooms.
The specifications for this facility dictated stringent requirements for sound abatement. The fans in the air handling units were specifically selected to ensure the lowest sound emissions. The selection of the vibration isolation components for all equipment and piping systems included detailed assessment of the sound transmissions. This attention to detail ensured that Modern Niagara met and exceeded all required critical sound levels for the project.
The project targeted LEED Silver certification, but after a year of operation, achieved LEED-NC Gold certification. We completed the project on time and within budget.
