Health and safety

Safety is in everything we do.

At the end of the day, what matters most is that everyone makes it home to their families.

Our health and safety record is well above industry standards. That’s because we have a safety culture, not just a safety program. Everyone at Modern Niagara plays a part in promoting health and wellbeing, and safety is embedded in all of our processes — from design, procurement and build to our service and client relations. Every month, health and safety reports are shared company-wide so we’re all on the same page. We practice prevention, which means we won’t hesitate to halt a project if we have health or safety concerns.

Modern Niagara’s dedicated Health and Safety Department supports these goals, including through the efforts of a national team of full-time Safety Coordinators. We invest heavily in processes, procedures and training and collaborate with researchers and academics to further promote safety and comply with all industry safety legislation and regulations without exception. And we make sure our teams in the field have all the tools and protective equipment they need to work safely.

In 2019, Modern Niagara was recognized as the first place winner of SMACNA‘s Safety Excellence Award Program (SSEAP) – Canada. In the same year, Modern Niagara received the 2019 Canada’s Best Health + Safety Culture Award (Silver) and the 2019 Canada’s Safest Employers Award in the Building and Construction category (Gold) from the Canadian Occupational Safety (COS) magazine.
