This project was part of Guindon Hall’s largest expansion since it was built. One of the only Level-3 Containment Labs in Ottawa, this 100,000 sq.ft. experimentation centre contains complex mechanical systems in the interstitial space between the first and second floors.

Modern Niagara provided all mechanical services. The building achieved Level-3 status on its first try.

The project included bio-security Containment Levels 2 and 3 Laboratories; a Vivarium Facility (veterinary care facility); open-concept wet labs, offices; a BSL-3 (Bio-Safety Lab Level 3) suite; a kidney research department; and two floors of shell space for future development.

Redundant mechanical and electrical systems ensure uninterrupted pressurization and systems controls to the high-level lab areas. All air supply and exhaust systems are fully HEPA filtered and a 100% fresh air supply for the high level labs. All epoxy finishes and doors are completely air tight and the facility was pressure decay tested to ensure all openings were completely sealed to ensure the air tight integrity of the bio-safety labs and support spaces.
