Humber River Regional Hospital (HRRH)
Location: Ontario – Greater Toronto
Market Sector: Healthcare
Delivery Method: P3
Humber River Regional Hospital (HRRH) will be North America’s first fully digital hospital and a pioneer in process improvements and efficiency. For example, the facility uses 46% less energy than the standard set out in the Model National Energy Code for Buildings.
We provided plumbing, HVAC, medical gas, and fire protection systems for this P3 project. This included a 6,300-ton cooling plant, a 56,000 MBH heating plant, 71 air handling units, and 6,000 plumbing fixtures. The air systems are fully outdoors and the building is targeting LEED-NB Gold certification. One of the project’s interesting construction features was the use of modular construction, which can save time and money.
The hospital delivers in-patient and out-patient care, including cancer, cardiac and critical care; emergency services, dialysis, baritatric surgical services; women’s and children’s services; and diabetes and mental health programs.
The project was delivered under Infrastructure Ontario’s Alternative Finance and Procurement program, where the public and private sectors join forces to provide needed infrastructure for communities.
Modern Niagara also received a Safety Excellence award from PCL Constructors for this project: 5 Million Hours without a Lost Time Incident.
